What Works. The Work Program: Core Issues Paper 8 - Education and student health: the big picture
An informative core issues paper that looks at some of the health issues affecting Indigenous students and the part schools and teachers can play in dealing with them. It is not intended to address all health issues; rather, it provides background information and advice for teachers and resource links about some issues of particular relevance to schooling including the health-education connection, the early years, hearing problems and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

Leadership and closing the gap
Stronger Smarter: Getting Closer
This series of three 26-minute studio chat shows is hosted by Dr Chris Sarra, Director of the Stronger Smarter Institute. The series comprises three programs: 1. Indigenous Elders; 2. Indigenous Students; 3. Indigenous Educators. It focuses on questions such as: ‘How do we improve the educational outcomes for Indigenous students?’and ‘How do we achieve quality teaching in our classrooms, a quality environment in our schools and a quality supportive context in our communities?’.

Bigges Mob Mirlimirli Teaching Two Way: Codeswitching Cultures and Dialects
This articles, written by Carolyn Bevan (Kija/Nyulnyul) and Denise Shillinglaw, describes a Broome Senior High School program designed for groups of Year 11 and 12 Aboriginal students. It aims to re-engage students whose literacy in Standard Australian English is underdeveloped, yet who possess skills in their own culture which give them the potential to achieve. Carolyn’s expertise as a cultural consultant equips her to work as a teaching partner alongside Denise a teacher of the English language. They work together delivering the West Australian English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) Course of Study.

Issues Paper No. 1 - School attendance and retention of Indigenous Australian students
Published by Closing the gap clearinghouse; written by Nola Purdie and Sarah Buckley
This paper draws upon key national and international literature pertaining to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. It highlights the issues in analysing Indigenous and non-Indigenous school attendance and retention; the gap in school attendance and retention and the causes of this gap; and the success or otherwise of the various programs and initiatives designed to reduce the gap.

The achievement of Australia’s Indigenous students in PISA 2000–2006
This report focuses on the achievement of Indigenous students and their performance in PISA. It concludes that raising the performance of Indigenous students and closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous students needs to be addressed using different approaches than those that have been used to date.

An education kit with Information and activities that complement the exhibition 'Yiwarra Kuju: The Canning Stock Route' that opened at the National Museum of Australia on 30 July 2010.
